Charlotte Attic Remodeling Surges for Charlotte Home Remodeling Projects!

Charlotte homeowners are looking up for expansion…upstairs into their attics. Once considered solely a dark and dingy storage area, attics are now routinely converted and remodeled into an additional area for families to enjoy.

The Charlotte Remodeling Company works with homeowners to take attic conversions and turn these underused areas of homes into comfortable bedrooms, functional home offices, bright play areas, and charming guest suites. Homeowners today realize that attic remodeling helps them acquire additional square footage without pushing out the walls of their homes. And the ROI when it comes time to sell your home is really high.

Many of today’s attic conversions focus on light and air with the once-dark space is turned into an open environment with skylights, windows, and recessed lighting. Remodeled attics can reflect the same style as the rest of the home, including crown molding, built-in cabinetry, and hardwood floors – a multitude of options that deliver high style, elegance, and function in this new form of attic living.

The number of homeowners around Charlotte converting their attics into livable areas has dramatically increased. It’s no longer a dream to have more space. Attics are a great source of untapped, inexpensive living space which often has unique and interesting architectural details.

Charlotte Kitchen Remodeling Project Concludes Before the Holidays!

Charlotte kitchen remodeling contractor from the Charlotte Remodeling Company in Charlotte! We have remodeled and built literally hundreds of kitchens since 1978!  We thoroughly enjoy working with our clients and their kitchen remodels and upgrades because so much time is spent in these central hubs of every home.

Kitchen remodels and upgrades are totally custom and based on the desires of each client.  There are so many different styles of kitchens with everything from contemporary to traditional to French country to Shaker style.

The photos on this page are from a recent kitchen remodel in Charlotte where the client wanted some Charlotte kitchen remodeling contractor remodels Charlotte kitchen at the Charlotte Remodeling Company.contemporary touches in their kitchen remodel.  The granite counter tops and work surfaces are the real star of this Charlotte kitchen remodeling project.  Absolutely beautiful kitchen granite work.

The contemporary and energy-saving “green” appliance package makes a wonderful decorating and functional accent.  The matching stainless appliances add a flair of class with the flow of the new kitchen remodel design.

We really like the beautiful range hood over the counter top stove top.  It is really an elegant statement to this contemporary kitchen remodel.

Charlotte kitchen remodeling contractor with a recent kitchen remodel and arched wall entryway from The Charlotte Remodeling Company.Did you notice how the salmon-colored paint on the walls is picked up in the granite on the counter tops?  That slight hint of salmon color really gives this kitchen remodel an heir of design and sophistication.

We thought that the segmented archway in the kitchen entry gave the kitchen a great deal of character and style.  The archway is one of our building and remodeling signatures and we really do enjoy building these stylish accents.  The segmented archway is a prominent building and remodeling feature found in homes all over Charlotte, Dilworth and Myers Park kitchens and homes!  We would like to meet with you as you consider remodeling your home’s kitchen or any interior room.

Charlotte Outdoor Living Patio Wood & Stone Structure Remodeling Projects Look Awesome!

There has always been something really pretty about designing and building with different types of wood and stone.  The big pines, cedars and redwoods just look amazing with different stones.

Charlotte outdoor patio structure contractor from The Charlotte Remodeling Company. This photo is from a recent Home-a-rama entrance.  I really think the beauty of the design, the rafters, the “heaviness” of the wood and stone give this structure a feeling of strength, stability, longevity and endurance.

The curving cut of the braces give this structure character and spirit!

Now how would you use this at your home?  We’ve designed and built so many different kind of outdoor structures, patios, gazebos, pool homes, and outdoor kitchens.  But wouldn’t this look good as a style to anchor your outdoor kitchen?  Or what about covering a patio by the pool or a stoop outside your patio door

These next photos are just some different ideas of projects that the Charlotte Remodeling Company has completed for homes around Charlotte.

Charlotte Kitchen Remodeling Trends for 2011!

Charlotte kitchen remodeling contractors see exciting 2011 kitchen design trends! There are exciting new trends in 2011 for Charlotte homeowners and their kitchen remodeling plans!  The trends that we are seeing develop for 2011 and beyond appear to retain value and are more popular trends across most people’s particular interests, which bodes well for resells!

So let’s look at what we see as the top kitchen remodeling trends for 2011:

Top Charlotte Kitchen Remodeling Trends

1.  Going “Green” is the most trendy kitchen style.  And this “green” is actually the color green.  Although appliance choices are still selected with the environment and energy use in mind, the color green has emerged as the popular trend.  Shaker design (which we love in Charlotte!) is a close second trending choice.

2.  Stainless Steel is the most trendy cabinetry.  Recycled materials, maple, and then birch are the next choices for kitchen cabinetry.

3.  Reclaimed Wood is the most trendy floor.  Reclaimed wood is a great choice for giving your kitchen a warm and inviting feel.  Bamboo (very environmentally popular) and wood floors are second and third.

4.  Engineered Stone is the most trendy counter top  .  Now you get into the discussion of whether Corian or Silestone is the better choice.  We’ll let you make that decision!  Concrete was second and granite was the third choice in this trend.

5.  Pullout Spray Style is the most trendy faucet.  Second was stainless steel and third was the single-handle faucet.

6.  Metal is the most trendy refrigeration.  By far, metal is the top trending choice in kitchen appliances.  It’s the designer look of metal that is most appealing.

7.  Induction Cook top is the most trendy cooking option.  Gas was second and the wall oven was trending in third place.

8.  Table as Island is the most trendy kitchen island.  A cooking center was second and a standard kitchen island was trending third.  The “table as island” is a great way to bring the family together in the center of the kitchen cooking action!

We have deep, extended experience in remodeling and building kitchens of all types, sizes and budgets.  Please call the Charlotte Remodeling Company and Charles Brown at 704-605-9695 for a free in-person consultation about your kitchen remodeling project!

Charlotte Kitchen Remodeling & Charlotte Jack and Jill Bathroom Remodeling Projects!

Charlotte Remodeling Company and the jack and jill-style bathroom from Charlotte kitchen and bathroom remodelers.By far, the most popular rooms in any house to remodel are the kitchen and bathroom.  And if you really think about it, these two rooms contain most of your home’s unique comforts and conveniences!

A really popular remodeling trend we are seeing today is the transformation of old closet space and an existing smaller bathroom  into Jack-and-Jill type bathrooms.  These bathrooms are usually connected on both ends to smaller bedrooms.

The Jack-and-Jill bathroom is very popular with young families who have children who need to share a The Charlotte Remodeling Company remodels bathrooms into new styles like the jack and jill bathroom.bathroom, and the connecting feature of the bathroom to both rooms is ideal!  Not to mention the potential return on investment when it comes time to sell your home down the road.

Lots of common Jack and Jill bathroom designs feature a double bathroom vanity. This kind of bathroom vanity includes two sinks, which means that more than one person can use the sink area at the same time. Many of these bathrooms are set up as “couple’s bathrooms” with separate storage spaces for each member of the couple, as well as separate towel racks for monogrammed or color coded towels.

Turning an existing bathroom into a connecting jack-and-jill style bathroom is a great project!  There are many new bath fixtures and options to privacy now available in this jack-and-jill style of bathroom.  If you are thinking about remodeling an existing bathroom, or adding a new one, please call Charles Brown at 704-605-9695 or email him at cbrown@charlotteremodelingcompany.com for a free in-home consultation and estimate!

Charlotte Home Remodeling Contractor Introduces Zipper Doors for Home Construction Projects!

Zipper Doors from the Charlotte Home Remodeling Company keep out dust and debris during construction projects. We are always searching for innovative and unique ideas to help us when remodeling homes across Charlotte.  And when we find these new ideas, we like to share them with you.

This new idea is awesome…and we really like using them.  Zipper Access Doors allow access into work areas that have been sealed off to contain dust and debris.

These doors can be securely “cut in” to the enclosed areas at convenient locations. This ensures that the work area is still completely isolated, while allowing a “passable area” that can be completely sealed up after use.

This Zipper door is an extremely handy tool that allows workers to enter/exit as needed; as well as a great feature for Homeowners to still be able to access their homes during the remodeling and construction process.

The Zipper Access Door is constructed of durable plastic and a heavy duty zipper. It is made to withstand The Charlotte Home Remodeling Company uses these unique Zipper Doors to contain dust and debris.frequent zipping and unzipping by work crews who need to enter/exit the work area frequently.  You’ll probably see us using a Zipper Door in your home when we start your remodeling project.  And, believe us, you’ll be thanking us for the Zipper Doors!

Please contact owner Charles Brown at the Charlotte Remodeling Company at 704-605-9695 or email cbrown@charlotteremodelingcompany.com for a free in-home idea meeting to discuss your home remodeling ideas and plans!

New Aerosol-type Fire Extinguisher Good Idea for Charlotte Home Remodeling Contractors & Homeowners!

When we are building and remodeling homes around the Charlotte area, customers are always asking us “what’s new in tools or trends for the home?”   And we like to pass along innovative products that can help you around your home.  This new product is pretty neat:  An aerosol-type can fire extinguisher!

Charlotte Home Remodeling Company Introduces New Aerosol Type Fire ExtinguisherA typical fire doubles in size every 30 seconds, so the last thing you want to do when a dish towel bursts into flame on your cook top is take the time to read a fire extinguisher’s operating instructions. That’s why the folks at First Alert have developed a more user-friendly extinguisher that operates like a common aerosol can. When a fire breaks out, just pop off the plastic cover and press the button—no rings, valves, or levers.

Although the 14-oz. Tundra extinguisher is only 9 in. tall, First Alert claims that it provides a spray time of 32 seconds (compared to the 8- to 13-second spray time of typical small and large extinguishers). The Tundra is effective against common fabric, paper, and wood fires as well as electrical and grease fires, and the spray cleans up with a damp cloth.

You can purchase these Tundra Fire Extinguisher aerosol-type cans at the First Alert website, as well as learning more about these unique products.  And please remember to call Charles Brown at the Charlotte Remodeling Company at 704-605-9695 or email cbrown@charlotteremodelingcompany.com when you need to talk with a professional about remodeling your home!  Thank you.

Charlotte Interior Home Remodeling – Doors Make the Room!

Sometimes we just walk right through them and don’t even pay attention to them (no pun intended!).  I’m talking about doors.  Doors are a hot topic with interior home remodeling and I would like to show you a couple of ideas for you to consider when remodeling your home’s interior.

Charlotte Remodeling Company uses new bi-folding doors that open completely out of the doorway for total access!Bi-Folding doors have always been popular door choices for laundry rooms and small closets.  But have you seen bi-folding doors that completely block the doorway when they are opened?  Frustrating to say the least.

I have replaced so many of these old-fashioned, annoying bi-folding doors with a new generation of bi-folding door.  The new generation actually folds completely out of the door way!  You have complete access to the entire doorway opening and everything that is behind the door.

This is a great idea for laundry rooms and closets that you use frequently…even kitchen pantries would be a good application of these new bi-folding doors.

Pocket Doors have really become popular around Greater Charlotte.  The Craftsman-style homes were early Pocket Doors from the Charlotte Remodeling Company are great interior remodeling ideas for kitchens, offices, libraries and dens!adopters of Pocket Doors because of the architect’s goals to “give the homeowner more usable space.”

So today, Pocket Doors come in many styles and material choices.  But the key element of the Pocket Door remains the same today…it simply rolls inside of the wall and remains hidden until needed.

Always a great idea for kitchens, bathrooms, room dividers, offices, libraries, etc.

You can see in the example photo to the right that introducing glass inlays with wood accents gives this pair of sliding doors a really elegant design touch…but still maintaining the highly-functional design of the original Pocket Doors!

The Sliding Bypass or Multi-pass Door from the Charlotte Remodeling Company is a great idea for larger door and walk-through openings in any type of home. Some homes have larger door and walk-through openings where the homeowner would still like to have the ability to “close off” the room.  These larger openings require a really interesting door concept called the Sliding Bypass Door.

The Sliding Bypass Door set-up usually consists of at least three (3) doors that are hung staggered (in front of and in back of each other) so the doors can completely slide past each other.

The Sliding Bypass Door set-up is a great door and walk-through solution for larger openings that can be found in kitchen transitions, dining room transitions, master bedroom closets, and larger great room or living room entries.

Still yet another type of home interior door is the Multi-fold Door system.  Multi-fold Doors are ideal for larger Multi-fold Doors from the Charlotte Remodeling Company hide large closets and divide large rooms!closet, storage, laundry, play rooms and even media rooms where traditional doors are too small.

I’ve seen Multi-fold Door systems that had a total of 16 door panels!  The goal with a Multi-fold Door system is that you can conceal the closet or room but still have easy access to enjoy opening up that room and revealing the large walk-through doorway.

Wood remains the top choice for large Multi-fold Door systems.  But so many different faces and styles of these wooden doorways are available in virtually any style you could imagine or want!  These types of doors make an excellent and easy way to screen rooms and divide larger open spaces in your home.

Charlotte Home Remodeling Includes Green Project Materials!

We really like how “green” products are being introduced so broadly and quickly into building and remodeling. In the photo to the left, bamboo flooring adds a beautiful touch to this modern kitchen remodel.
A few years ago, it seemed like everybody was becoming green-this and green-that…just to jump on a bandwagon. But as we approach 2011, the green movement has really taken root, especially in our remodeling, renovation and home building fields.

Product manufacturers are introducing green-safe and green-ready products that bring more earth-friendly benefits with them. Some of these products are more expensive than traditional ones, but some are actually less expensive. As time passes, these green products will slowly replace traditional ones and the prices will subside.

Green remodeling can be done in small ways and doesn’t necessarily have to encompass the entire home. It’s easy to pick and choose elements that fit each particular homeowner. The following can be used:
  • Non-toxic paints and sealants

  • Programmable thermostats

  • Energy efficient appliances

  • Natural flooring

  • Local building materials

  • Natural fiber rugs and fabrics

  • Recycled material roof shingles and tiles

  • Energy efficient lighting

  • Insulated hot water pipes

  • Tankless water heaters

  • Quality insulation

  • Native plants for landscaping

  • Energy-efficient windows and doors

Other items to consider when remodeling or building a new home include beautiful designer recycled glass tiles for backsplashes and accents, bamboo flooring, and recycled roofs…they look beautiful but are so good for the environment.

Please call us at 704-605-9695 or email cbrown@charlotteremodelingcompany.com to get more ideas on how you can go green, buy green and get green in 2011!

Charlotte Outdoor Living Builder - We Do It the Right Way!

Outdoor living areas in Charlotte have become an exciting way for homeowners to incorporate the pleasures of nature and our beautiful outdoors with family living areas. The concept for the outdoor room has remained the same but new advances in architecture, lighting, and furniture have dramatically increased its functionality in the modern home.

Outdoor retreats infuse nature with all of the comforts that we enjoy indoors. Basic outdoor rooms contain a space for cooking and dining and more elaborate concepts include everything from sofas and beds to spas and meditation areas. The possibilities for outdoor rooms are almost limitless. However, there are a few things you will want to keep in mind when planning and creating an exciting and useful space that you and your guests will be able to take pleasure in for years to come.
1. Actual space needed.
You’d be surprised how much space a 20′ x 20′ sunroom or a 15-foot gazebo really takes up. Try cutting pieces of string the length of your planned outdoor addition and laying them on the ground. Add an extra foot for security! This will give you an idea of how much space is really needed for your project.
2. Plan ahead for electricity, HVAC and plumbing.
Is your new outdoor space going to be covered, enclosed or totally open? Will you want electrical outlets, outdoor sinks and appliances, or natural gas? These are the basic infrastructure items that will need to be thought of prior to any building.
3. Neighborhood covenants and HOA regulations.
There are rules and guidelines that cover most outdoor living additions and new structures. We will take care of all of these for you. But you need to consider these rules when thinking about your outside addition. Checking your neighbor’s backyards can help guide you. What do they have in their yards?
4. Transitional indoor/outdoor rooms.
Here’s a new trend for outdoor living areas: transitioning from an enclosed sunroom or outdoor room to an open patio area to a covered gazebo area. This new trend in outdoor living areas gives homeowners three distinct areas: the safety and temperature-controlled environment of the indoor sunroom, the open air and exposure to sun of the patio area, and the covered and/or screened enjoyment of the gazebo. Throw in a hammock and you’ll never have to go back to your bedroom!

Charlotte Myers Park Dilworth Home Remodel & Kitchen Remodel

We've Remodeled Homes in Charlotte Since 1978

The Charlotte Remodeling Company is a different type of residential remodeling company. Our approach, style and genuine passion for building and remodeling is as unique as your home is from your neighbor's.

Here are the "extras" that we always include in remodel projects:

  • Landscape Irrigation - sometimes we need to disconnect up to several zones of your irrigation system to accommodate the remodel process. We will keep the system intact so you can still water most of your property.

  • Temporary Fencing - to contain pets or just to keep from encroaching the neighbors property, or to keep mud from washing into neighbors yards.

  • Neighbor Notification - we provide a letter template for you to use to notify ell neighbors in advance about your upcoming projects and how long the project might last.

  • Set boundaries for the job site. Let the company know you expect routine precautions, such as employee background checks for anyone who will have access to your home. Also, establish some ground rules about parking, bathroom use, smoking, and other issues that might concern you. This is your home and we will respect you!

Investigate a contractor's work history and work habits. Some contractors are specialists and some are generalists, so make sure their abilities are appropriate to your project. Take time to see their work firsthand, and look for three things: some similarity to your project, quality materials and workmanship, and consistent client satisfaction.

Also, track small indicators that signal professionalism or a lack thereof. Are your phone calls returned in a timely manner? Are appointments and meeting times kept? Do company vehicles and/or dress code reflect pride and cleanliness? Carelessness in these small matters does not bode well for the quality of work. You'll find that The Charlotte Remodeling Company excels in our pride for quality work and our passion for exceptional customer service and attention to details!

Please call Charles Brown and the Charlotte Remodeling Company today at 704-605-9695 or email cbrown@charlotteremodelingcompany.com for a free design and brainstorming meeting!
